Harold Washington’s Connection to Obama

The radio show “This American Life” commemorates 20 years since the death of Harold Washington with an extremely interesting look back at Chicago’s first black mayor – and discusses the effect that Washington had on a young community organizer named Barack Obama. Turns out David Axelrod, Obama’s closest advisor, was also Harold Washington’s campaign chief.

I had thought Axelrod was an Insider with connections to the Daley family. Didn’t realize he’d been close to Washington. This makes me feel somewhat better about him.

Anyway, this radio show is a Must-Hear. Go to thislife.org and click on the link that says Full Episode and you can hear it on your computer. They also offer downloads. This thoughtful show gets two thumbs up – and if I had another hand I’d give it three thumbs up.
