I love Obama. But I still think this is funny:
Any other candidate who went around selling “change” would be a total joke to me. But, somehow, I believe Barack. Or, not exactly believe him…but support him DESPITE his rhetoric. As if I think I understand the guy on a deeper level and realize he’s not talking to me when he spouts that infantile bullshit about “change.”
It’s an interesting phenomenon. Instead of taking on the status quo head-on, like a Howard Dean, he leaves the populist rhetoric to the John Edwards’s of the world. The way Obama promises change is just…by being Barack Hussein Obama. He is the change. He doesn’t need to harangue the electorate with a laundry list of the oppressor’s misdeeds. If he can get the United States of America to elect a black man named Barack Hussein Obama as their president – that’s such a coup right there, the other stuff just falls into place.
This is the foundation of his campaign.
Of course that’s assuming I’m correct that there is a reality behind the image. I hope I’m not being suckered into supporting him just because he’s from Chicago.
Obama is a semiotician’s dream come true as a candidate. It’s a fascinating way of turning the language of politics on its head.
I just hope it works.
